Do you believe only good educational infrastructure is enough, for building educated society of tomorrow???

I feel, the main objective of development in education sector should not be strictly aligned with infrastructure development. For a long time in the modern history, this may have been the case. We often hear stories of many kings and queens who were excellent administrators, fiercely protective of their borders, and compassionate towards the needy sections of society, especially when it came to their upliftment.

In today’s time Kings and kingdoms make for good reading in fiction, and while the brutality of colonial rule is not something we prefer to dwell on, we have adopted various methods of data collection and storytelling using these tools for the good of society, and to narrate our profound stories of hard work, growth, and service to the world with a peaceful and progressive mindset.

However, those ancient Indian teachings and their subsequent interpretations in many regimes give us the opportunity to understand diverse social strata and communities across the globe. On the world stage, when 'Made in India' and personalities having Indian-roots, are appreciated, and back at the home the nation takes pride for the same. At the same time, India is building more schools and designing curricula -perhaps experimenting with them- to create more success stories, with the hope that home-grown talent will shine on the global platform with the same level of excellence and humanity for which we are being recognized.

I believe that the best part of education does not end with establishing physical infrastructure; it goes beyond that, though, of course, modern infrastructure is also important. Don’t you think we also need to build emotional infrastructure that helps students understand the meaning and purpose behind the facilities created for them? Until we build emotional infrastructure to motivate children to study, they may never truly realise the potential hidden within them, even once in their lifetime.

We are all familiar with the story of Chanakya and Chandragupta Maurya. I believe such ancient stories should be reread from the perspective of values, a dedication of a Guru who made his student to introspect hidden potential for becoming a great emperor; off course rather than discussing such stories only & only through the lens of archaeological controversies. Our gurus and rishis used to run some of the finest educational institutes and ashrams, I believe they built both emotional and physical infrastructure. Donating money can buy infrastructure, but emotional infrastructure inspires students to realise their inherent potential, choose the right stream of study, and channel their energy towards excellence, without relying on artificial or superficial motivation.

What do you Think ?
